Get ready to say "goodbye" to surprise messes and "hello" to a stress-free changing experience.

Creating the perfect baby nursery Setting Up The Perfect Changing Table

1. Changing table/drawer

Are you a minimalist mom-to-be searching for the ideal diaper changing station setup? Look no further! I understand the struggle of finding a solution that combines functionality, aesthetics, and the desire to keep things neat and organised. I scoured through countless changing tables, only to be disappointed by their functionality.

Some had open shelves instead of drawers, leaving everything out in the open for the world to see—an absolute nightmare for us neat freaks. Plus, let's not forget the inevitable dust accumulation. Then there were those with changing tops that extended over the front edge, making it a hassle to reach the first drawer. On top of that, I didn't want my baby positioned sideways during changes.

After careful consideration, I found the perfect match: Vicco Emma changing unit with three spacious drawers, exactly the right height for me. The changing top has a raised edge, which makes it safe and comfy for your baby. And when your child is no longer in diapers, you can just take off that changing part for good.

2. Changing mat

Next on the checklist: the perfect changing mat. After much research and consideration, I came across the Ceba Baby Soft Changing Mat. With its generous dimensions of 80 x 75 cm, this changing mat provides ample space for comfortable and safe diaper changes. Its soft and cushioned surface ensures a cozy experience for your little one, while also being easy to clean and maintain. The Ceba Baby Changing Mat is the ideal addition to my minimalist diaper changing station, offering both functionality and comfort without compromising on style.

3. Nappy bin

An item that I highly recommend to have is a reliable nappy bin, and my top pick is the Tommee Tippee Twist and Click Advanced. One of its standout features is its exceptional ability to lock away all those unpleasant odors, keeping the nursery or changing area smelling fresh and clean. The Tommee Tippee Nappy Bin offers a unique twist and click mechanism that ensures a tight seal with each nappy disposal. What sets this nappy bin apart is its incredible capacity. It can hold a significant number of nappies, saving you from the hassle of frequent emptying.

4. Wipes Warmer

Another essential addition to my minimalist diaper changing station is the Prince Lionheart EVO Wipes Warmer. This innovative wipes warmer ensures that each diaper change is a pleasant experience for my little one. With its advanced moisture retention system, it keeps the wipes moist, warm, and ready to use, providing a soothing sensation during those diaper changes. The Prince Lionheart EVO® Wipes Warmer not only adds a touch of luxury to the diaper changing routine but also eliminates the shock of cold wipes on sensitive baby skin. Its sleek and compact design perfectly aligns with my minimalist style, making it a must-have accessory for a seamless and comfortable diaper changing experience.

5. Wipes

When it came to finding the perfect wipes for my little one's precious bottom, I stumbled upon Hello Bello wipes at Asda, which seemed to be just what I was looking for. However, my joy was short-lived as they were discontinued, leaving me in need of an alternative. I had heard numerous negative experiences from my friends regarding Pampers brand, so I was initially hesitant to try Pampers Aqua Pure 99% Water Wipes. However, I decided to give it a shot, and I was pleasantly surprised! Sure, they seemed pricey at first but I only needed 1-2 wipes to get the job done, unlike other brands that required a whole bunch. So, I think I've found my winner in Pampers Pure wipes, and I genuinely hope they keep selling them.

6. Nappies

As a new parent navigating the world of nappies in the UK, it can be quite a challenge. I've experimented with various popular brands, but many of them have proven to be prone to leaks, resulting in messy outfit changes. On top of that, some nappies can feel rough and uncomfortable against my baby's delicate skin. That's why I was absolutely thrilled when I stumbled upon the Czech brand "Kolorky". Not only are they incredibly soft, but they also prioritise being eco-friendly. Plus, I never experienced any leaks as long as I used the correct size and ensured proper application.

7. Bepanthen

Bepanthen has been a part of our family for years, ever since my mom used it on my little brother when he was a baby. Personally, I've had amazing experiences with this ointment. It has been my go-to for healing my runny and irritated nose during a cold, as well as treating my new tattoos. So, when it came to finding the perfect ointment for our little one, we didn't hesitate to choose Bepanthen. It's a trusted friend that we know will take care of our baby's delicate skin just like it has for us.

8. Frida Baby Windi Gaspasser

Another essential item to have on hand is the Frida Baby Gaspasser. Though I haven't had to use it yet for my little one, I feel fortunate to have it at the ready. This handy tool provides a natural solution for colic, constipation, and other gas-related issues. The Frida Gaspasser works instantly without the need for ingesting any drops or medication. It's a single-use tube specifically designed to assist babies in relieving excess gas, ensuring their comfort and well-being.

9. Spare clothes

Another important item to have on hand is spare clothes for your little one and I found it particularly helpful to keep them in one of the drawers in my changing station. This way, I could quickly open the drawer and grab a new outfit whenever I needed to change my little one's clothes. Having the spare clothes conveniently located in the changing station meant that I didn't have to leave my baby unattended to search for them elsewhere. It provided a safe and efficient solution.

10. Nappy basket

Another item to consider is a portable baby nappy caddy organiser. This handy organiser is designed to keep all your baby's essentials neatly organised and easily accessible. One of the great benefits of a portable baby nappy caddy organiser is its convenience. It typically features multiple compartments and pockets of various sizes, allowing you to neatly store diapers, wipes, creams, changing pads, and other essential items all in one place. You can easily take the caddy from room to room in your home.

White and Grey Portable Baby Nappy Basket Organiser

I actually got myself a portable baby nappy caddy organiser, but to be honest, I didn't end up using it as much as I thought I would. However, I found a wonderful alternative use for it. The caddy has now become a fantastic storage solution for my baby's books. It not only keeps them organised and easily accessible but also adds a charming touch to the nursery decor. Some mums out there swear by their nappy caddies and can't live without them. It really just depends on what works for you and your little one.

11. Travelling changing mat

Foldable portable travel changing mats are a practical and convenient solution for parents on the go. Having one of these mats in your diaper bag ensures that you're always prepared for nappy changes, no matter where you are. The key feature of these travel changing mats is their foldable design, which allows them to be compact and easily portable. They can be folded up into a compact size, making them ideal for carrying in your diaper bag or attaching to a stroller. When unfolded, they provide a clean and hygienic surface for changing your baby's nappy, protecting them from dirty surfaces in public restrooms or other areas. One of the great advantages of these mats is the inclusion of storage pockets. These pockets come in handy for storing nappies, wipes, creams, and other changing essentials.

12. Nappy bag/backpack

The last item on our list is a nappy bag or a nappy backpack. Both options offer a convenient and organised way to carry all your baby's essentials when you're out and about.

In a separate blog post In a separate blog post titled "Choosing the Perfect Diaper Bag vs Backpack and What Every Parent Should Carry," I discuss my personal experience with choosing a nappy backpack initially and later swapping to a nappy bag. I explain the reasons behind my decision and whether I'm happy with the change. By sharing these insights, I hope to empower every mum to be well-prepared for various parenting situations.
